DESCRIPTION:When Luke completed his master’s in engineering he received a phone call from a friend offering to connect him with somebody working in Solar\, somebody high up in Engineers without Borders or somebody who ran a fuel cell company. Luke responded by saying that the hydrogen economy is being hijacked by the oil and gas industry to keep business as usual\, so definitely not fuel cells. What changed his mind to spend the next 10 years of his life taking on a self-funded PhD in the hydrogen sector?\n\nSchedule\n\nMCQN Ltd are sponsoring the pizza and refreshments from 6:30pm with the event starting at 7(ish)\n\n- 6:30 - 7:00: Networking & Nibbles\n\n\n- 7:00 - 8:00: Luke Evans - Can Hydrogen Fuel Cells reduce the impacts of climate change\, enable local circular economies and improve lives for all?\n\n\n- 8:00 - 8:30: Mingling until the beer runs out!\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Let's get together and spend a day writing code\, mapping things\, or otherwise playing around with stuff that might make active travel (walking\, biking\, wheeling) better in Liverpool (and beyond)\n\nWhat's a hackday?\n\nIt's an informal\, hands-on day of exploring tech-ish stuff. Work on something on your own or find some collaborators. A place for prototyping and trying things out. A bit like a Service Jam\, if you've come across those. Adrian wrote up his experience of the last Liverpool Service Jam\, and a hackday is similar (though maybe somewhat less structured)\n\nAgenda\n\n- 10:00 Welcome\n\n\n- 10:30 Let the hacking commence!\n\n\n- 12:30 A reminder that you should get lunch!\n\n\n- 16:00 Show and tell. Nothing fancy\, just a reconvening to talk about how things went\, and to let anyone who's got something to show off share it.\n\n\nSome ideas for things we might explore:\n\n- Do some active-travel-related mapping on OpenStreetMap. Check out the intro to OpenStreetMap from the DoES Salon\, and/or the OpenStreetMap wiki pages on cycling\, pedestrians and accessibility or OpenSidewalks\n\n\n- pick one of the open issues in the city-wide "somebody should" issue tracker\n\n\n- Global Service Jam Toolkit\n\n\n- Adrian wrote up some suggestions for cycling in Liverpool a while back\, some of those might be picked at\n\n\n- What datasets would be useful? Adrian has many GB of live bus data from the Bus Open Data Service for Merseyside. Maybe we could get cycle counter data from the council?\n\n\n- What else? Feel free to suggest or discuss things in the comments...\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Merseyside has long history in tide prediction and two working historical mechanical tide prediction machines are housed a short walk from DoES at the National Oceanography Centre. Researchers from the Centre are interested in making a version of these machines for educational outreach\, using the tools at DoES at our maker nights. To help us help them make new machines they have arranged a visit to see the historical machines in action.\n\nSpace is limited so it would be helpful if you could book a spot for the event. \n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Small\, independent businesses are essential to the character\, prosperity\, and resilience of our communities\, but financial capitalism and systemic breakdown are making it harder and harder for them to survive. Tom Woodroof introduces Local Loop Merseyside as a bridge into the Credit Commons for the city region's small businesses\, offering immediate financial wins coupled with feedback loops towards increasing collaboration and localisation.\n\nTom Woodroof fell down the money and commons rabbit hole after reading about mutual credit on Lowimpact.org. He is a co-founder of Mutual Credit Services and Local Loop Merseyside. He also convenes the Circular Trade Analytics forum. He has a Ph.D in applied nuclear physics from the University of Liverpool.\n\nSchedule\n\nMCQN Ltd are sponsoring the pizza and refreshments from 6:30pm with the event starting at 7(ish)\n\n- 6:30 - 7:00: Networking & Nibbles\n\n\n- 7:00 - 8:00: Tom Woodroof - Local Loop Merseyside: Bringing Small Businesses into the Credit Commons\n\n\n- 8:00 - 8:30: Mingling until the beer runs out!\n\n\n
